Korach

this week we read ויקח קרח בן יצהר בן קהת בן לוי would it not be beautiful to understand the meaning of the above names? when a child was born to our forefathers, they meditated and gave out their deepest expression and thought when they named him/her. so we can learn so much about the "torah view on the world around us" from names.to put it in Chazals words:יפה שיחתן של עבדי אבות יותר מתורתן של בנים! י .

lets start with קרח ,it means "bald" deplete of hair .We may assume that עשו was born "full of hair" and was named accordingly.so too קרח-when born- was lacking the standard amount of hair .

we know that "hair" has a very important significance in Torah. a נזיר displays his beautiful hair and consecrates its beauty to Hashem. When somebody sees a נזיר walking down the streets of יריחו ,he sees a walking advertisement of Hashem.Namely, give all your beauty ---and everything else you might have-- for his service!

How is this done? usually,a person takes care of his/her hair he sets in into a certain style--mainly curls תלתלים --or a women into braids or curls גודלת או פוקסת במסכת שבת צה-if you leave your hair uncombed "undressed" you are definitely a נזיר! (By the way ,ענבי-נזירך לא תבצר "your untrimmed vineyard--you did not trim it b/c of Shmita-- you may not reap its fruits)

A נזיר walks around in a special style---loose hair--- he thereby proclaims that his beauty=hair, belongs to Hashem & he "lets it go" he has no permission to show his "control" בעלות on his hair(very similar to the idea of Shmita in relation to the fields)

In נדרים we find a man that saw the reflection of his beautiful hair in the water. He felt like he is worth a million dollars, and was about to sin, right away he vowed to become a Nazir, so he must let his beautiful locks go loose....

אבשלום is praised for his beauty, he also was a Nazir, presumably,to deflate the גאווה that might result from his splendor

דוד המלך had beautiful curly red locks קווצותיו תלתלים, שחורות כעורב that's how the פסוק describes beauty. In Chazal we find יוסף מסלסל בשערו .A מצורע is prohibited to "fix" his hair, rather let his hair be disheveled " ציפלויגען .the same is true for an אבל ר''ל ,it is a "sign" of sadness and mourning.

so again, hair means alot in the torah and Chazal (ר' יוחנן לא הוי ליה הדרת פנים,משום שלא היה לו זקן.ב''מ פרק הפועלים) next time you see yourself--or your friend--in a mirror, thank Hashem for HAIR ,yes it is a great gift of beauty that he gave you,and it is a pity if you don't appreciate it.(even if you are bald right now, you can:thank hashem for OTHER people's hair--like chazal say on a סומא that thanks Hashem that other people can see,or thank Hashem that you ONCE had hair--it is never too late to sing שירה to Hashem!

Women are prohibited to go in the רשות הרבים (מבואות יש להסתפק) עיין עליו in a loose style, rather they must have their hair set into locks.מדרבנן they must cover their hair with some kind of hat or kerchief .Ancient Jewish women let their hair grow very long. We know the wife of ר''ע sold her long beautiful hair,so her husband may learn Torah. We find in Midrash איכה that a certain jewish women covered her naked body with her long hair .Also we find in עירובין שהאשה מגדלת שיער כלילית! כשד הזה.. עיין שם
it seems that the jewish women covered her head but all the rest of the hair was out...
Please tell me if I am mistaking

Let me conclude ,tomorrow when we see hair,we must get mad about it! shout out to Hashem (when nobody listens..or the might take you to Bellvue)how wonderful is your creation of hair! we eat potatoes and it turns somehow--I'm not a scientist to tell you the thousands of processes that happens-into the miraculous beautiful object of HAIR .Yes if we don't get crazy about this ,then we are sick.I know the NY times is not excited about this, but come on ,we have a little more דעה than them! why should we dwell in their blindness & darkness .
Dovid Hamelech certainly said שירה for Hashem when he looked on hair ,shall we not!
