this week we read זאת חקת התורה... ויקחו אליך פרה .What is the meaning of חקה ? If we take a close look we will discover that it is always used in a context of "giving detailed laws without explaining any reasons". It is like a manual that you ought to follow step by step for a "quick set up",no reasoning or convincing or explanation, just follow step 1 ,2,3 & you are OK!. Compare some recent Sefer on Hilchos Niddah named קיצור הלכות נדה .

In פרשת פרה we have lots of הלכות פסוקות in the פסוקים .Exactly how the procedure of פרה was from לקיחת הפרה till הזיית מי נדה .In לשון המשנה this would be מעשה פרה כיצד?וגומר .It will NOT EXPLAIN or give any REASONS ,just tell you EXACTLY WHAT to do.

Now, the word חקה ,derived also a meaning of "following strictly without hesitation or question".So we read חקת עולם לדורותיכם --כל חלב וכל דם לא תאכלו .Also we constantly read לא תעשו מחקות התועבות especially regarding the Canaanite cult עריות .It seems from the Torah ,that all those abominations stem from a crooked and false Gods ,when God turns into a image with passions etc. then humans can sink very low in modesty .This needs further explanation.

All of those seemingly sensible self gratifying ways are intentionally labeled as ! חקות .it is a mockery ,suggesting, come on ,don't follow those ''unreasonable & illogical ways"

We too may say the same to all kinds of "styles" that eats up alot of our hard earned money and time and energy of doing something better in life.
